Power Boating and Rib Rides

You don't need to splash out on a boat to take to the sea, as there are numerous schools and centres teaching boat handling skills that won't cost you big bucks.

There is also a number of operators in Scotland offering exciting high-speed RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) rides around parts of our stunning coastline. It's also a great way to see indigenous wildlife, such as seals, porpoises, dolphins, coastal birdlife and even whales, up close and personal!

Where to go:

There are various boat charter companies found near or in the marinas in Scotland. From the West Coast to the Clyde, you'll be given the opportunity to go out on a RIB or charter your own boat. Click on the adjacent links for operators who generally offer the activity close to their base.

If you're keen to try ZapCats (small catamaran type powerboats fitted with a 50 horse power outboard engine), then these are available in Glasgow on the River Clyde.

Want to get started ?

If you go with an accredited company then no equipment is needed as instruction, lifejacket and safety gear will be provided.

If you want to drive the boat yourself then The Royal Yacht Association (RYA) has accredited centres that offer boat courses across the country from introductory to instructor level.
