River Bugging in Perthshire

The River Bug was developed and historically put through its paces in New Zealand, and has now become a regular on the menu of some adventure centres in Scotland.

River Bugs look like hi-tec, blow up armchairs and are a great way to play on the river if you want that little bit more excitement. They are a single person craft, made up of inflatable chambers behind and beside the user, who is kitted out with wetsuit, buoyancy aid, helmet and hand and feet flippers to help with steering.

After learning a few basic skills, you will be able to run the rapids, catch eddies, surf standing waves and even pirouette!

Where to go:

River Bugging is only available in a few centres in the UK, all of them in Scotland - two in Perthshire and one in the Aviemore area.

Want to get started ?

There are a handful of adventure companies in Scotland that provide this activity. You will be taught how to operate the craft, i.e. steering, safety, etc and then taken out to play on the river!

The activity normally takes place from April through to October.
