Whitewater Kayaking on the River Spey

At last, something great to do with all that rain! One group of sports enthusiasts that positively revel in the wet stuff and can't wait for the heavens to open are whitewater kayakers.

When the rains fall and the rivers come to life it's the kayakers who come out to play!

Whereever you find mountains and rain you will find whitewater.

River Tay
One of Scotland's most famous rivers and it's longest, offering good white water especially for an introductory level. Good conditions all year round.

River Etive
A short adrenaline filled trip featuring some beautiful waterfalls.

River Orchy
One of the best! Everything from easy water to stonking grade 5. This river holds its water well and is a popular weekend destination.

River Findhorn
An East Coast classic, the highlight of the trip is the infamous Findhorn gorge. Good conditions can often be found in the spring as melting snow from the Monadh Liath mountains boosts the flow.

Want to get started ?

First of all you need to master the basics on flat water before tackling your first river. Canoe clubs, outdoor centres and activity providers all provide a good way to get started. That way you won't end 'up the creek', well 'without a paddle'. Visit the Scottish Canoe Association website for further information.
